Ecology Surveys and Reports

A phase 1 habitat survey is undertaken to map the habitats present in an area under consideration, such as a development site. This provides a record of the baseline state of the study area

Ecology reports are required where there is potential for a protected species to be impacted by development or the works taking place in relation to it.

Ecology Desk Study

It is advisable to always undertake a desk study review of available information such as ecological records to identify potential issues and rule out others at the outset. This includes local environmental records centre data, statutory designated sites and habitat distribution information.

Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey

A phase 1 habitat survey is undertaken to map the habitats present in an area under consideration, such as a development site.

This provides a record of the baseline state of the study area and informs decisions as to whether any further ecology reports are required.

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Report

The Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) Report details the survey findings in a consistent manner as set out in guidance. It includes details of any ecological constraints identified and mitigation or enhancement recommended to offset the development and minimise overall impacts. This typically includes a GIS map of habitats noted on the site.

Ecology Reports

Data and information falling under the following headings are typically reviewed and recommendations based on these.
